Zero emissions tractor prototype includes autonomous features
At Tech Day, we revealed the latest development in our strategic plan for electrification – the New Holland T4 Electric Power tractor.
Following the launch of the multi award-winning e-Source power pack – an external generator for electric farm implements – our experts in the USA and Italy worked together as One Team to bring to life the industry’s first all-electric light utility tractor prototype.
And, in a true example of Be the Best, they did so in just half the expected time.
While the prototype is branded New Holland Agriculture, commercial models will also be available in the Case IH range.
Michele Rossi was the Product Manager for the New Holland T4 Electric Power. He was the point of contact between the customer and the product development team.

Power
The tractor’s battery pack delivers up to a full day of operation. It takes just one hour to reach 100% power with commercial fast-charging systems. It doubles as a backup power generator. And it provides energy for electric implements.
The tractor’s electrical outlets support daily farm tasks such as welding and drilling. Traditional mechanical, hydraulic and Power Take Off implements can also be used.
Performance
The T4 Electric Power is more efficient than a diesel tractor. Smoother shuttling and gear shifts make it even more of a pleasure to drive. It also reduces operating costs by up to 90% all thanks to the elimination of diesel fuel costs and associated maintenance fees.
And it’s quiet. Noise is reduced by up to 90% and vibration is also substantially dampened. This allows for nighttime operation in municipal areas with strict noise regulations. And on the farm, it protects the wellbeing of nearby livestock, especially when working in covered areas such as barns.
Precision
But it’s not just this tractor’s power source that makes it a world first. It’s got advanced autonomous features and automated capabilities – enabled by roof-mounted sensors, cameras, and control units.
So it’s simple to use for operators of all skill levels. Farmers can remotely activate the tractor via a smartphone app and operators can sync machines to work together. While a 360-degree perception system detects and avoids obstacles.
There’s more. It features built-in telematics, auto guidance, and fleet management. Implement recognition ensures the tractor seamlessly links up with required attachments. And offboard digital services let farmers run the tractor from anywhere, at any time, while keeping a close eye on its performance and battery level.
Design
CNH Industrial’s global Design Team have styled our alternative power portfolio. The T4 Electric Power features the distinctive New Holland Clean Blue color. Their illuminated leaf emblem and signature taillights mark a clear distinction from the aesthetics of conventional diesel tractors.
David Wilkie, Design Director at CNH Industrial, said “When you see the tractor from a distance you will notice it does not have a traditional front grill, in it’s place is a beautifully formed hood which reflects the technology within. As the cooling is now on the top, there is no need for a traditional grill.”
